Michael H. Zimmerman brings more than three decades of accounting and financial leadership experience to his work supporting organizations across transportation, logistics, food service, manufacturing, and publishing. His expertise spans full-cycle accounting, financial statement preparation, budgeting, multi-entity reconciliations, audit coordination, payroll administration, and financial systems management. He has built a reputation for bringing clarity, order, and disciplined oversight to complex financial operations while helping organizations strengthen internal controls and improve reporting accuracy.
Throughout his career, Zimmerman has been entrusted with financial leadership for complex, multi-unit operations, serving in chief financial officer, controller, and senior accounting roles across a wide range of industries. He has overseen accounting functions for organizations with multiple business units at once, including logistics, restaurant, manufacturing, equipment leasing, and publishing operations. His experience includes developing accounting systems and internal controls, guiding organizations through technology transitions, negotiating financing and insurance arrangements, coordinating due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures, and leading companies through IRS, lender, and regulatory audits with minimal findings.
Zimmerman currently provides full-cycle accounting and reporting support for a portfolio of companies, managing bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial oversight across diverse business units. Over the course of his career, he has consistently demonstrated strength in accounts receivable and payable, general ledger management, budgeting and forecasting, intercompany transactions, and financial analysis, supported by deep hands-on proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel.
In addition to his corporate experience, Zimmerman has contributed his financial expertise to nonprofit governance through board service at Cliff Valley School, where he served as Treasurer and led the Finance and Budgeting Committee. In that role, he applied the same rigor, transparency, and accountability that have defined his professional career, helping strengthen financial stewardship in a mission-driven setting.
Zimmerman holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Missouri and began his career in public accounting and regulatory auditing before moving into senior corporate financial leadership. He is known for his diligence, integrity, and practical ability to bring structure to complex accounting environments. These qualities position him to make a meaningful contribution to ICONS as the organization advances justice, human rights, transparency, and institutional accountability on the international stage.
